This Sunday, July 23, we'll continue the "I Am a Church Member" sermon series at both our main campus (and our Dover campus at 11 am) featuring an accompanying book by Thom Rainer by the same name. We still have a few books left. What does church membership mean? How is it different from other forms of "membership" in American society?
We've talked about what it means to be a fully functioning church member and considered our commitment to be unifying church members. This week we'll explore how our preferences don't trump our mission. The message is titled, "I Will Not Let My Church Be About My Preferences and Desires." We'll look at a number of texts, but the key one is found in Mark 9:35: "He sat down, called the twelve disciples over to him, and said,
“Whoever wants to be first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else.”
